Pre-Season Wrestling: Junior High
Advanced Training for Serious Wrestlers.
MatTime's Advanced Wrestling program is built for wrestlers who are ready for a more competitive training environment.
This class is designed for experienced junior high and high school wrestlers, along with younger wrestlers who have earned their way into a more advanced room. Age matters less than readiness. If a wrestler is coachable, focused, technically prepared, and ready to train at a higher level, this is where they belong.
This program is not a beginner class. It is for wrestlers who need more — more pace, more detail, more intensity, and more serious preparation for competition.
Built for Wrestlers Who Want More
The goal of this class is simple: help committed wrestlers continue developing before, during, and after the season.
Wrestlers in this room will focus on refining the techniques that matter most in live competition, building wrestling IQ, improving positional awareness, and learning how to chain attacks together under pressure.
This is where we sharpen the tools that allow wrestlers to walk into the season prepared instead of trying to catch up once the season begins.
Not Strictly Age-Based
This class is labeled Advanced Wrestling for a reason.
While the room will include many junior high and high school wrestlers, placement is not based strictly on age or grade. Some younger wrestlers may be ready for this environment. Some older wrestlers may need more time in our developmental room before moving up.
Our goal is to place each athlete where they can be challenged, coached, and developed the right way.
The advanced room is for wrestlers who are:
Pathway to the Competitive Season Team
This class also serves as a pathway into MatTime's Advanced / Competitive Season Team.
When the regular wrestling season begins, our competitive team will be built around the same standard: the best fit for the room, not just age.
That means wrestlers will be evaluated by readiness, effort, coachability, technical ability, competitiveness, and how well they fit the culture of the team.
We want wrestlers who show up consistently, listen well, work hard, support their teammates, and are ready to compete.
Coaching
This program is led by MatTime Head Wrestling Coach Adrian Garcia, a former Division I wrestler at UC Davis, NCAA Qualifier, and 2022 Masters Freestyle National Champion. Coach Garcia brings high-level technical knowledge, competitive experience, and a structured approach to athlete development.
Coach Gary Garcia, Adrian's father and a California Hall of Fame Wrestling Coach, also helps bring decades of wrestling knowledge, coaching experience, and technical insight into the room.
Together, the goal is to continue building on MatTime's success and keep pushing the program forward as one of the top youth wrestling rooms in Northern California.
What Wrestlers Will Work On
Wrestlers in the Advanced room will focus on:
This is a structured training environment. We are not just running moves. We are building wrestlers.
Why This Room Matters
Middle school and high school programs throughout Placer County are doing a great job growing the sport and getting more kids involved in wrestling.
MatTime's role is to provide an additional high-level training environment where serious wrestlers can get more focused technical development, more repetitions, and more individual coaching.
In our room, we are often able to maintain a strong coach-to-wrestler ratio, with multiple coaches working with a group of committed athletes. That kind of attention matters.
More hands-on coaching means more corrections, more details, and more opportunities for wrestlers to improve before bad habits become permanent.

Is This the Right Class for Your Wrestler?
This class may be a good fit if your wrestler is already competing, has strong fundamentals, and needs a more challenging room.
This may not be the right class yet if your wrestler is brand new, still learning basic positions, or not ready to train safely with more advanced partners.
If you are unsure where your wrestler belongs, reach out to us. We will help place them in the correct class.
The goal is not to rush athletes forward. The goal is to develop them properly.
Get Back on the Mat
If your wrestler is planning to compete this season, the preparation starts now.
The wrestlers who separate themselves when the season begins are usually the ones who put in the work before the season begins.
Advanced Wrestling at MatTime is where serious wrestlers come to sharpen their skills, raise their pace, and prepare to compete.
