Notes:
At MatTime we embrace the notion of old school values where things in life are earned, not given. We seek to introduce kids to the concept of doing something difficult, and the benefits that come from this. Grit, perseverance and resilience are not something that can be taught in the classroom. Our Great Nation and society in general are moving farther and farther away from these concepts - ideals that built this country.
MatTime aspires to be a sanctuary where the young and the old grow stronger as a result of reaching beyond ourselves, immersing ourselves (and kids) in a challenging environment where physical fitness and discomfort are part of the equation. This is very unlike our society where - as a whole - people believe that comfort and security take precedence over hard work and resilience. Wresting is a vehicle that can teach our youth these values that will not only make them better people, but will help increase the strength of our community and Nation as a whole.
In raising kids within combat sport like Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu, we are teaching them to be comfortable in chaos, and not to be ruled by natural human fears that come from physical confrontation. Unfortunately, many adults are inadvertently teaching kids to walk in fear because they don't have the ability to understand or face their own fear. Combat sports can teach kids to stand up and face their fears directly and in turn, give them the tools to fight off fear so that it does not gain a foothold and become a force that dictates their direction, daily behavior or future.
Maintaining healthy outlets and activity for kids and sports has never been so important. The sport of wrestling and Jiu Jitsu can be unforgiving as one can quickly be humbled and physically dominated by their opponent. Through these trials we learn (quickly) to respect opponents and in this arena one's character, attitude and work ethic set them apart from others. More importantly, combat sports place everyone on equal ground regardless of race, background, economic or social status. This dynamic tends to produce young adults that learn to respect others because of internal (not external) characteristics. This is a good thing.
MatTime began its first wrestling season amidst this chaos and we wouldn't want it any other way. Join us for the next stage of this journey.
